I love watching fox 13 over any station of news. However, I feel that the way the newscast adds on words is not a good example at all. I am only seventeen and it hurts my ears when I hear the morning crew calling the people of topic 'thugs' and morons. I understand that they have done wrong in the world but why should the team with so many emmy awards have to use such unprofessional terms. I feel that the news should just be delivered and no extras. It's not a problem to have fun but addin on their personal thoughts are wrong. I hope one day they realize this and do better.

I agree with you on this. I don't think they should voice their personal feeling on air either. You can tell their feelings on any given story. They use words like, punk, low-life, thug, and others on a regular basis. I think it's kinda tacky. If this is how they feel, they should express these thoughts in private and not on the airways.

I'll have to disagree with you on this one. These kids that are being reported on are being "thugs", "punks", etc. I don't really consider the newscasters as voicing their opinion, sounds to me like they're just choosing more colorful names for these "offenders". The "offenders" are showing no respect for anyone, including themselves, therefore, deserve no respect back. Matter of fact, I could think of a few other names I'd like to call them, but you can't say them on the air. lol!

Ernie Freeman does it to much, I heard he would rather be in Nashville and he looks down on Memphis, he is welcome to go back. I know several candidates that are qualified for his position. He disrespect civic leaders and clergy.

I think they do it because if they called them "alledged offenders" or "perpetrators" the people about whom they were talking wouldn't understand those words because they are more than one syllable, LOL.

The people they are talking about ARE THUGS and PUNKS, what if one of those THUGS or Punks came and Raped, car jacked, stole, murdered you, your mother, dad, sister etc.. Would you give them PUNKS, Thugs a better name????
I got Many THUGS and PUNKS that live around me,

Well see it's not for us to decide who gets what name. im sure alot of us have done things but we easily get offended when we're called anything besides our name. We should give respect to get it. no one is perfect and no one mistake is forgiven over anyone else's so to name a person is not our place. regardless of the crime...

Over the air is not the place for them to voice their personal feelings about a story, no matter what the case is. Now off air, if they want to use these type of words, then it's okay to do so. It's unprofessional, in my opinion. I thought a person was innocent until proven guilty, they start calling people these names right of the back, no matter is the case has been proved or not.

"thugs", "animals" ,etc. are all code words that speak to a particular audience.

Understanding these words, how they are used, and who responds to them is the first step to thinking independently and not like sheep.

well if we teach kids thats its okay to label people with the actions that they've taken, then i guess the world is headed in the direction it is meant...

with the way crime is going, i believe people just dont understand that it isnt our place to point blame on even the accused because we have done wrong as well. women dont want their kids calling them hooker just cuz thats what they have to do to provide for the family. You dont get it?? You have to teach your kids this, When My kid watches the news and he hear's that name calling, me and my husband tells him that is what bad people are called and they go to jail over it,, Hell I even have my son watch LOCK UP just so he can see what can happen to a person that commits a crimeand acts that way.

News can teach.

That is so different. if there are commercials that call the people thugs then that is different.but the newscast that is supposed to be a role model for the world is not showing good examples by showing ignorance...

i am a current student that has alot of feedback on alot of the issues that occur all around. i watch the news faithfully at nine and in the morning. its time my voice be heard.
