Subject: Carol Chumney's message to Black Memphians: CLEAN UP!
Memphis mayoral hopeful Carol Chumney participated in the 2007 Orange Mound Southern Heritage Classic parade. Carol rode in a shiny red Jeep with supporters walking ahead carrying a large banner celebrating her campaign.  Carol Chumney was abundantly clear with the primary message of her campaign when waving at the thousands of African-Americans looking on from the sidewalks of Park Ave.  Though most floats and vehicles had tasty sweet candy treats for the thousands of black Memphians cheering on the parade, Carol Chumney chose to give the crowd of thousands an powerful symbol of her feelings about them:

CAROL CHUMNEY THREW THEM SOAP.

Maybe Carol Chumney had concerns about tooth decay from the candy little African-American children would eat during this festive day, but what in the world could she be saying to little black children hoping to receive some Now-and-Laters or Kit-Kats by throwing soap at them?

Carol Chumney, cleaning up Memphis, one black child at a time.

Carol was also passing out candy. Refer to the pictures (#2) and you clearly see candy. Show me a picture of Carol Chumney passing out the soap. So you need to get your facts straight.

Are you now denying that she passed out the soap? YOU need to get your facts straight. She did it and the campaign not only doesn't deny it, they are proud of it. Dumb idea! DUMB, DUMB, DUMB and incredibly insensitive. We do not need a person as mayor who has no more sense than that. She is clueless. Dump Herenton and elect someone to bring the city together. The only one is Herman Morris.

I don't feel she meant anything by this. I feel like this is being took out of proportion. I can see how people are getting mixed messages. We should ask her what her intentions were or were not. Then we will know what she meant.

What? Are you against soap? Hey, throw me a bar but make mine Coast please!!! Seems some people are TOO sensitive and could make an issue over a simple shoe string ESPECIALLY if it were black and a crack-a was holding it. Move on to something that MATTERS and makes a difference for one and all be they white, black, yellow or green. Why does COLOR matter?! We ALL bleed red!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope that Carol Chumney is true to her word that she wants to clean up Memphis. Now that the election is over, will she still mean it, or was it all talk. Let's see if you will hear or see Carol, now that she will start practicing Law. Is she going to really embrace Mayor Herenton, meet with him and offer her ideas? I don't think so.

I've got a few opinions & don't mind sharing most of them. Take 'em or leave 'em. I'm a fed-up city employee who can't relate his thoughts anywhere else than here, anonymously. Speak your piece in public or campaign for anyone running for city election other than the sitting officials and you might get fired.
