In Indianapolis, a 5-year-old boy shot and killed his 4-year-old sister with a semiautomatic handgun.  Police said the little boy got the gun from a bookcase to play with it.  It happen Sunday morning at 6100 block Massachusetts Avenue, Makayla Booher was found with a gunshot wound to the head.  The father and his wife are separated.  Child Protective Services is involved and the 5 year old boy and his 15-year-old stepsister have been taken into custody.  James Booher, a 24 year old could face a neglect charge.

I feel this little boy did not really know the consequences of his action.  And that it was almost like his father pulled the trigger.  Especially since he allowed his 5 year old son open access to his gun by just simply placing it in a bookcase.  This is another senseless death that could have been prevented if this parent properly locked and stored away his hand gun.

If you are going to own a handgun you have to be responsible.

Hey Foxy! Another irresponsible gun owner. Hopefully he will be charged. Is this father 24, with a 15 year old stepdaughter? Wow, how old is the mother?

Poor kids. Both of them. That child will have to live the rest of his life knowing he accidentally shot his sister. I hope the father will be charged because this certainly isn't the little boys fault.

That's what the article said Mskaytenn. I thought that was kinda strange. I was wondering if it was a misprint. Maybe he is with a older lady.

I agree with you ladies 100%!

This is why everyone needs to take a permit to carry class. One is taught the correct and safe way to handle and manage firearms.

That family's devastation can not be erased by any classes or comments on gun safety--but it might sve another's.
God's comfort and blessings to that family.

I don't own a gun and I have no desire to own a gun. I wish a law would be passed banning anyone from owning a gun other than law enforcement. It breaks my heart every time I see a child killed.

Integrityforus1, I own a gun. But I have no children that live with me. I keep it locked away until I get ready for bed at night. I did not want to purchase a gun but during the time I was married and my husband work all kinds of odd shifts. Someone was tripping my alarm off in the wee hours of the morning. I thought to myself prayer alone would not be enough.

does he not know how to use safety?

or unload a gun?

it breaks my heart to know that 5 year old knows how to use a gun.

Like the old saying goes"If you outlaw guns, then only outlaws will have guns". I own firearms and I have a son. I grew up around guns. I was taught as my son is taught to never touch them. My guns are safely stored out of reach of my son. Besides if only cops had guns who would protect us from them?

You are right Gourd. I'm sure Sean Bell's family would agree as well.

I also own a gun but I have it put far far away from my daughter. I could not sleep at night if I didn't have my it. It will take the police several minutes to reach you but your gun is instant protection. We just have to be responsible and lock them way.
