In a Newspaper the other day, I read this interesting
editorial:
Dear Sir:
It seems ministers feel their sermons are very
important and spend a great deal of time preparing them. I have been attending
church quite regularly for thirty years, and I have probably heard 3,000
sermons. To my dismay, I discovered I cannot remember a single sermon. I wonder
if a minister's time might be more profitably spent on something else.
The next day I read this response to that editorial:
Dear Sir:
I have been married for thirty years. During that time
I have eaten 32,850 meals -- mostly my wife's cooking. Suddenly I have
discovered I cannot remember the menu of a single meal. And yet ... I have the
distinct impression that without those meals, I would have starved to death
long ago.
In the same vein, your Pastor hopes to serve a memorable, theological
meal that will hopefully stave off your spiritual starvation tonight.
Father in Heaven, we adore and glorify your Holy name and thank you for all the blessings you have given. As we confess our sins to you we ask you to cleanse us of all our unrighteousness and iniquities. My Father, we realize that because of you, stars do not struggle to shine; rivers do not struggle to flow, and I claim that we will not struggle to excel in life. If we hold on to our dreams, things will be well with us. I pray that our eyes shall not behold evil, and that we shall not labor in vain; I pray that the mouth saying Amen to this prayer shall have a merry heart, good health and remain in God's love and favor forever. We speak, in the name of Jesus, that our dreams will not die; that our plans will not fail; that our destiny will not be aborted, and the desires of our heart be granted. We are assured that the will of God will never take us where the grace of God will not protect us. We speak goodness, grace and mercy into our lives. We speak healing, happiness, prosperity, peace and patience into our lives. Our prayer is that we receive a divine visitation that will move our lives forward mightily, by the outworking of God's unstoppable Power. We are blessed beyond all curses; We are healed beyond all sickness; We are prosperous beyond all poverty; in Jesus' name, Amen
