Personally I don't get the agenda of some city council members. The majority of  citizens WANT this unrealistic policy repealed yet a few refuse to do what's RIGHT for the people. Citizens live in constant fear, bar/lock their doors at night, burn outside lights, have home alarms, afraid to work in their yards, all because we can't get more police in the streets. And Nero played the fiddle while Rome burned!!!

Citizens want protection and couldn't give a damn where a new OR current cop lives. Yeah yeah yeah, they want their pay to stay here but in the real world would it really make THAT much difference in the end?! 

So to those narrow minded council member who are guarding their turf at the expense of the citizen safety and who refuse to see bigger picture, open your minds and ponder this train of thought if your able. 

If the MPD had more officers and were able to make Memphis safer, wouldn't it naturally follow more people would consider relocating here along with new businesses/industries? And with that wouldn't an increase in the local tax base and revenue follow? Yes yet you worry about the salary of a few vs a possible greater increase in revenue from new familes and businesses moving here because it's a  SAFER enviroment.

As Memphis stands, why would ANY family or business want to locate in one of the unsafest city in America?! Duh. While this ignorant policy contiunes to be battled,  more will be raped, robbed, killed, and jacked, simply because no qualified applicants are to be had within the limits.  

Yep, crime will march on because narrow minded self-serving ELECTED decision makers allow it just so a "local" can be hired and a council member get's a feather in his/her cap. Woo hoo. 

Apparently the people within the limits don't want the job either because they already have a job they want, they have a record that disqualifies them, or they're underage. And what do we do about the latter, wait until they grow up?

Maybe the council wants to overlook criminal records. Yeah, like besides an  emergency I'm dealing with that I've called the poice for, I also want to wonder if the  responding officer is an X pot dealer or X rapist. Sorry but I want an officer with morals, integrity, and no criminal past. And the beat goes on in Backwater USA.........

You know it is very unfortunate that I had to start rethinking the way I treat a few people I know all whites. I have never considered myself a racist as a matter of fact I have several non black friends. I hate that in 2008 there are those who simply look at race as a factor and to say thing like blacks are lazy kentucky fried chicken eating kool-aid drinking cadilac driving handout seeking idiots is about the furthest thing from the truth. fact is we are some of the hardest working people around the only group I think works harder is hispanics which I have much respect for the way they work. Problem is most of the people whom I heard say this are living off nest eggs provided by their family some don't even have a job. so you tell me who is lazy. I work for a very well known company where I have exceeded the standards set forth, I am currently a volunteer firefighter, I have my son in taekwondo lessons as well as peewee football. I am also preparing to go to school to become a certified paramedic where is the lazy part in all this. I want to thank all of the whites, hispanics, native americans, asians and any other group not mentioned for you support in electing americas first black president. We still have alot to do but this is evidence we are moving in the right direction. As for those who feel impelled to make threats against obama keep in mind you can and will be arrested if any of these threats can be traced back to you, and lord help you if you actually try to act on them. Obama won in an electoral landslide and he won the popular vote so guess what that means there are more people who did not care about race than the idiots who did KKK is alive but all is not well for them they are a dying breed soon the numbers will dwindle I look forward to our first hispanic president as well as our first female president because the day is coming and there is absolutely nothing a racist can do about it. All non racist americans unite and help stomp out the racist fire that still burns within the country

If this offends you then maybe you are the one who motivated me to write this post. Also keep in mind if you are a so called christian remember God can take any form so if he comes to you as a member of a race you dislike will you no longer believe in him and not want to get into heaven anymore. Just something to ponder on

Obama won, people please get over it. There is nothing anyone of you can do about it besides moan and groan. If you voted for him, then yay celebrate. If you didn't then there's a saying that goes tough BLEEP said the kitty... need I really finish this?  I am not going to sit up and continue to read blog after blog with you people bashing him. Election time is over, can we all please put on our big kid undies and let it go?  Then there are the people that keep bringing up race. This is the reason why I plan on leaving the south as soon as I can!  My dad is white and my mom is black, that makes me mixed, bi-racial, or my favorite term, an oreo. (I can be a cookie if I want too!)  In all my 23 short years of living have I had to deal with such foolishness till I moved to the south. I have had people that I don't even know walk up to me and ask me if I was mixed, to which I replied none of your business. I was told that my race was determined by my father at the DMV, (didn't know they specialized in that sort of thing) and that I had to only mark 1 race when I got my license. This is unfair to me, my parents and when I left, I was black and white (ha ha ha DMV lady!!!).  Then there is the whole, well if you have one drop of negro blood in you then...(another stupid saying)  which I totally disagree with. I understand why black people consider Obama black, I know he is an oreo like me. Some of you know he is an oreo like me. Can't we all just deal with it? Is it so wrong to let black people consider him black? History was made, and it gave a lot of black people a new hope for their lives, is that so wrong? To wrap this up, people let's please let it go. I get out of class and I get off work and all I want to do is read blogs to unwind and all this foolishness is starting to ruin that for me.

I THINK THAT THE TENNESSEE AND MISSISSPPI POLICE DEPARTMENTS ARE MAKING A MOUNTAIN OUT OF A MOLE HILL WHERE DAVID DUKE IS CONCERN. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF ANY STATE EMERGENCY SET UP FOR THESE OTHER GROUPS THAT HAVE COME TO THE MID SOUTH TO HOLD THERE MEETINGS. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THE CONSTITUTION BELONGS TO CERTAIN GROUPS AND IF THE GROUP THAT WANTS TO HOLD A MEETING, THEY CAN'T BECAUSE WHAT THEY BELIEVE IN DOESN'T FIT IN WITH THERE BELIEFS. THE MEDIA USED DAVID DUKE'S MEETING TO SCARE PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THEM. IN ALL THE MEETINGS THEY HAD, I DO NOT RECALL ANY INCIDENTS OF VIOLENCE. SO WHY DID THE OLIVE BRANCH POLICE DEPARTMENT CALL FOR A STATE OF EMERGENCY. WHY CAN'T THESE PEOPLE GATHER JUST LIKE THE NAACP AND OTHER GROUPS MEET. ? IS IT BECAUSE THEY ARE WHITE SUPREMIST ? THEY DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT TO HAVE MEETINGS LIKE THESE OTHER GROUPS. WHY ISN'T A STATE OF EMERGENCY CALLED WHEN OTHER GROUPS MEET ? I believe that the largest percentage of Obama voters voted on 1. Race (nothing wrong there) 2. Because the Media made a Hollywood celebrity  of him and that they liked the way he talked and looked. How many of them listened to  or read his statements, not that there were many- He would not Salute the Flag -he did not care for the flag as it was offensive to the rest of the world. Hecks we fed-clothed and supported most of the 195 countries . His associates Ayers- Rezo- Wright- Farrakhan etc. His desire to shred the US constitution etc.   FREEDOM OF SPEECH

Well, the election is over and now the realization has come that it is true, "Yes We Can"! I have seen some things that in all of my years of voting, I have never seen; I saw people who have never voted for any election get registered and really go out and vote!!! I saw the regular run of the mill Joe and Jane who never just made the time because they felt like my vote won't make a difference, get out and vote. I saw the "Trap Stars", "Hustlers", and usual ne'er do wells who typically don't even know when to vote or even what platform issues are important to them take time to find out if they can vote, register and even early vote. The one that gets me the most, children who are not old enough to vote have taken time to explain to anyone who would listen in their own way who they think you should vote for.

I have seen some dreams realized for some, and new beginnings for others. I watched the election with my grandmother because this was a turn that quite frankly, many thought they would not see. Not the fact that we have a "Black President", but we have a President that belongs to every one of us who will allow him to. You know you have world wide appeal when CNN shows video of people in Kenya rejoicing to see the announcement of President-Elect Barack Obama winning the election. My grandmother has seen or been apart of picking cotton, Jim Crow, The Depression, The Civil Rights Movement, among other events in history, and yesterday the realization came that nothing that has ever happened was in vain.

My title above speaks to not just me being Barack Obama, but each person I identified generically, my family, friends, political opponents, and just whoever took the time to cast a vote. At this point whatever choice you made at the polls is your own, but the result of this election speaks to the chance we have to finally get this right as a nation and on a global scale.

Now al of our children have a renewed sense of purpose that truly anything you want in life you can have!! The Obama slogan says "Yes We Can", I say on this day "Yes We Did", so now the work begins for us all as a nation. I will leave you with these final images for the day, for each one of these children now know that they can honestly say, "I am Barack Obama"!!!!!

  Good dawning of a new day,one of my worst reality's has come to pass and it's not so much an individual in high places that concern's me. If a pebble strikes the surface of water there is an undeniable ripple effect,it is this which is worrisome to me.

   Our new commander and chief just may end up with only gay people defending this once wonderful country of ours.It seems now that everyone's dreams are about to be fulfilled ,the man living in a box,all the illegal Mexicans[which have taken many jobs from legal tax paying citizens] ,Sammy in Orange Mound and everyone else that sells drugs on the street corners or pimps hoe's.
