On the Second Amendment,

Don’t Believe Obama!

The presidential primary season is finally over, and it is now time for gun owners to take a careful look at just where apparent nominee Barack Obama stands on issues related to the Second Amendment. During the primaries, Obama tried to hide behind vague statements of support for “sportsmen” or unfounded claims of general support for the right to keep and bear arms.

But his real record, based on votes taken, political associations, and long standing positions, shows that Barack Obama is a serious threat to Second Amendment liberties. Don’t listen to his campaign rhetoric! Look instead to what he has said and done during his entire political career.

Somebody needs to hold the firearms industry accountable. I support banning all guns unless you are law enforecement. I like his stance on gun control. Go Obama. This is a weak case against Obama. Mommy he took my gun so I can't shoot him.

I'm surprised you could find any documentation of Obama's supporting and/or voting for anything.

As far as I can tell he stands for nothing other than pretty speeches that amount to absolutely nothing pragmatic, but that's just me. If you like words, as far as I can tell, this guy is your guy! :)

On a separate note, if you would like responsible gun owners to be punished for the sake of everyone obtaining firearms illegally - this guy also appears to be your guy. I, personally, would like to know that if some cracked up moron broke into my home in the middle of the night, I could have a fighting chance if I had my gun loaded and ready to go.

But, I guess, it's more important to make sure that the criminals are the only ones with proper access to firearms - for, don't kid yourself integrity, they will find them.

Well integrity if Obama takes away the 2nd Amendment then he'll take away the 1st Amendment. You know what that means, NO MORE SAYING WHAT YOU WANT TO SAY.

@TruTiger. go to barackobama.com and read his positions papers. If you don't know what Obama stands for, it's because you don't care to look, but not because he is an empty suit and hasn't made his positions public or clear. There is more substance there than you can comfortably take in a day. The same goes for McCain. if you wanna know what the candidates believe, don't rely on corporate media, go look for yourself.

@ Samuel1955. Please. Tell me who HAS infringed on Civil Rights & Civil Liberties more than the Bush Administration and the PATRIOT ACT? You can't name two administrations together who have done more than the present admin.

What Obama MIGHT do is speculative. What DID this administration ACTUALLY do? Please be fair and give credit where credit is due.

Did Obama undermine your Constitution & Constitutional rights or did the Bush Administration do it? Have you read the PATRIOT ACT lately? Your government is already surveiling your activities & monitoring your speech: your credit card purchases, your phone records, your reading habits, your blog postings, your bank transactions, your charitable donations, your public records, under the guise of: 1-drug laws, 2-the war on terrorism, 3-tax fraud & financial crimes against the United States. Too late to shut the gate, the cows have already left the barn. Don't blame Obama or the left. Rightwingers did this to America's freedom (the left co-signed).

As far as Obama suspending the 2nd Amendment for individuals. No way. No how. He has said that is not his position. But he wants to make it more difficult fo

But he wants to make it more difficult for "illegal" gangs to get "illegal" firearms, which they use to commit "illegal" activities, like violent crimes. . .Gun ownership is governed by law. There are restrictions on munitions in America. And there needs to be. The 2nd Amendment is not anybody, anything, at anytime for hunting and personal protection. I mean, can you just run out and purchase hand grenades & stinger missles?

Guess what crony. Again you dont know it all like you think you do. He nor anybody else will slow down the bad guy from getting guns when they want them. But they can slow down the good guys if we give in to the anti-gunners. Obama is one of them along with ALL the rest of the lefty CRONYS. If you didnt know this, now you do. I see Barack Hussein Obama has you believing in his colored smoke hes blown up your butt. You need to stay away from his kool-aid you been drinking.

You have know idea what the 2nd Amendment means I see. YOU ARE A LEFTY LIBERAL. YOU KNOW NOTHING OF THE TRUTH.

The Patriot Act was a bad piece of legislation. No one had time to read it before voting. Most of what is says needs to be thrown out or throw up reading it.

"Gun Control" that everybody hollers for is wrong, wrong, wrong. The only ones left with guns would be the bad guys because they usually steal them or buy them through the black market anyway. It is our second amendment right that allows any citizen the right to keep and bear arms, whether that be a pistol, rifle, or shotgun. By anyone that tries, he had better not think he is getting mine.
Any responsible gun owner knows that the instand the bullet leaves his gun, he is responsible for it and where it ends up. The bad guys don't care. They do not hold life sacred; they just don't care. So don't try to talk gun control. You will not get it..
Instead talk bad guy control. You think you are making a dent with that?

Crony-you would be surprised what I can comfortably take in in one day, but thanks for the assumption.

You're right though - I can read all about what he stands for; however, he has not mentioned pragmatic means by which to implement the vagaries he stands for. I misspoke when I said he didn't stand for anything...

The difference between an orator and a leader is one who tells us how he's going to get it done - not just that it needs to be done - active vs. passive.

Neither candidate is active, IMO. I mean, I can say all day that policy X is wrong; however, I can't tell you how to get it changed. If either candidate has that much experience (which is what they are both selling) he should be able to tell me how to change the policy and the ramifications that it will have down the line.

And until Obama can say how he would impart legislation that would suspend only gun sales to bad people without affecting the rest of the gun toting poplulace who obtained its guns legally, I cannot support it. I get what he wants to to - but until he says how he's going to do it, it's just talk.

@Integrity_thanks. You understand the atmosphere.

@TruTiger_if you can take in all of that dry, sawdusty wonky stuff crammed in position papers in a day, you are a bad girl, and a better woman than I give you credit for. Damn that stuff can be boring. I wasn't commenting on your intelligence or your capacity to handle, just the detail blahness of it all. Like eating cardboard. Who wants to do alot of that?

@samuel_how do felons and gang members and teens get guns? They have records, and can not resort to legal means. They have to circumvent the legal process and resort to loopholes & black market. 1-they steal munitions, 2-they attend gunshows where record keeping is non-existent, 3-they use proxy agents to buy weapons, with "drug" money. Is it your opinion that violent felons need a cache of weapons? Well. Fine. At least lets have a mechanism in place where the weapons can be traced to the seller. If it is an Americans right to flood the streets with weapons, then knowing whom exactly (the name) of the weapons proliferator should be a part of the "social contract". You are conservative & conservatives believe in law & order, right.

You say:Guess what crony. Again you dont know it all like you think you do. He nor anybody else will slow down the bad guy from getting guns when they want them. But they can slow down the good guys . . .

This is exactly the point. Who do you think is selling the weapons to the "bad guys". But the "good guys"-amoral arms merchants, or sellers with no felony records, don't want their names attached to the blood money they take or the

blood money they take or the weapons proliferation they participate in. They just want to sell the weapons, take the money & hide. Gang members are not manufacturing the automatic weapons & rifles & shotguns they are using to commit assalts & violent crimes with

Crony - no offense taken, and I agree with you on the fact that there ought to be some reformation to the gun laws in order to make sure they stay in the hands of people who are using them legally.

It doesn't seem likely, however that our Congress can get its collective head out of its collective a** long enough to reform squat. Now if either Obama OR McCain can tell us how to get some of these promises out of legislation and into everyday life, we'd have a real candidate IMO.

@ TruTigerGirl

That's just it. The liberal / conservative blah blah blah is nonsense. Nothing is getting done. Bills are filibustered or can not make it out of committee or subcommittee because of politics. Then (name your politican) gets in front of news reporters & television cameras and blame the other party for failure. When anybody who took civics 101 knows that it takes two parties to tango. So the partisans are whipping up passions and demagoguing, and there are no innocent parties. Just partisan politics & name calling.

Both parties are participating in pork barrel spending, and both parties are co-signing these appropriation bills that are ballooning the federal government. The Democrats are tax & spend. And the Republicans are borrow & spend. And we (citizens) are fugged any way you cut it. I agree with you.

No matter who we vote for the government gets elected.

I'm surprised the communist had time to support or even vote that much, since his time and experience is lacking. And this shows that this man cannot make and stick with a decision, so how could any one think that he could possibly run this country? Just say no to obamanation.

The gun ban in DC has done wonders for our crime in our nations capital. I agree lets get rid of the bad guns and the bad gun stores that keep killing our loved ones. Lets ban freedom of speech. Lets have our government control our bawl movements. Hell they already limited our toilets to 3.2 liters per flush.

...and how many times does one have to flush the blasted thing to get all the excrement down???? One would do better with the old outhouse and not worry about flushing at all. One would think that is where the powers that be would rather we be. Just make sure one does not sit on a stub tail cat if the lid is down and it is night time and one did not take a torch. Tends to make one leave quickly despite the pants around the ankles. These rap kids bagging today would be impressed. True story here in our family lore. One that we all enjoy the telling and the hearing.
