I sure hope this gets around before November

Hot on the heels of his explanation for why he no longer wears a flag pin, presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama was forced to explain why he doesn't follow protocol when the National Anthem is played.

According to the United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171, During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform are expected to stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart.

"As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived as taking sides," Obama said. "There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression. And the anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all. It should be swapped for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song 'I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing.' If that were our anthem, then I might salute it."

WHAAAAAAAT!!!!!!!!!! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this could possibly be our next president.  I, for once, am speechless
Wake up people, a Leopard don't lose his spots and a Muslim doesn't lose his Koran AND he wants to be President of our Country.

Well, I am taking a side against Obama. The man is finally being vetted and the bugs coming out of the woodwork are all bad. He can't step on them fast enough and he can't explain them away. His heart, his beliefs, his fundamental stances, his votes, everything about him spell devestation for this country.

the code you are citing "United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171, " is one for soldiers in and not in uniforms, Not for civilians. So get real.

not all republicans are simple minded and dishonest as some are. If you don't like Obama for what ever reasons, why not be honest, don't lie or make up false stories about him.
if you like the way the country is going then vote for mccain, so you will have more of the same or vote for Obama or Hillary for change in the right direction of the country.

I concur with GODsCHILD123... Even on your own blog, when ascribing a philosophy to ANYONE based upon a sound bite you may have picked up on a 30-second news story, it is important to understand the full context in which the statement was made. That is true whether you agree with their position or not, especially when any potential distortion will support your own personal views.

If he gets to be President of the United States then he is bound to said code. Being President makes him commander and chief of all armed forces.(GOD HELP US) He is NO longer a civilian. If he cant adhere to this code now then we as a country do not need him.

Whats even scarier is if he dont win that office their will be riots all across this nation because the democrats we holler cheating, robbery. Even though he lost fair and square.

Proper flag etiquette requires common citizens to place their right hands upon their hearts for the display of the flag during the national anthem. Military must salute in uniform or out of uniform must place their right hands over their hearts.
I did speak up and state my reasons.
The remarks concerning the Muslims from the others is in regards to his extreme closeness with the Islamics and the terrorists. That, is quite scary for someone who is running for the President of the United States.

Weather Obama is or is not Muslim doesn't really matter. He is a borderline Marxist. Listen to his speech's. It is his and most of the Democrats, opinion that the Federal government is the answer to all problems. Throw enough money at any problem and it will go away is their solutions.
In the last 30 yrs we have spent, as a nation, more money on education then we have on our military. Yet we have one of the highest drop out rates in the western world and more of our kids can't read, write or do simple math when they graduate from high school.
No, Obama and the Democrats are not the answer. I'm NOT a victim, I want to take control and responsibility for my own health, finance and actions. I want the federal government to stick to what the Constitution says it should. Provide for the common defense, negotiate treaties, collect taxes, and ensure domestic tranquility. Everything else should be left to the states and the local communities.
God Bless America

A. The greatest expansion in government over the last 30 years have come under 1. Ronald Reagan, and 2. George W. Bush. Republicans (not conservatives) have run up the national debt & advocated deficit spending. Clinton left the government with a 10 year surplus. Bush will leave the country with a projected 10 year debt. Obama's taxes. Whatever.

B. in the last 30 yrs we have spent, as a nation, more money on education then we have on our military. . absolutely not true. Says who? Did you get this "fact" from the Government Accounting Office? Well. Go there and look at what the government says it spends on Education. Compare Military spending (which is always 1/3 of discretionary spending) to education. Where does your "more" come from.

Education is a states rights issue. The Dept of Education (created under Carter in 1979, introduced into the cabinet under Reagan in '80 ) deals with national standards, and Grants to Colleges. Establishing policies for federal financial aid. Their budget is 68 billion a year. or the equivalent of the cost of two months of Iraq war.

Americans for truth.

And why did Clinton have such a surplus? It was a result of the so-called "trickle down" effect that kicked in and he went with it.

The repubs have spent like dems the last 6 months and shame on them.

we should spend spend spend on the military.

drop the NEA, keep education as states' rights and keep the feds out of it. they are in it up to their eyeballs.

I didn't quite follow what you were saying Tranell. What did you want proven? Are you agreeing that the American flag IS AN OPPRESSION SIGN for black people? If so, too bad. If you are American, this is it. If so, go where you feel more comfortable where you feel no oppression. That is simple enough. As an American, I don't have to prove my family's blood for your freedom. If you don't like it, leave. Freedom is costly. That flag is a precious symbol of that freedom.

prove to me that Black people do not need to view the American flag as a sign of oppression...i wish i could go back to the country my ancestors were deceived from...however, the Whites have tainted that land as well...Africa's soil is rich so the White man has done what he always does...he took it...so America, at this time is the lesser of the evils...lol...Jamaica has too many storms and tornados...but i dont plan to be in America long...i just plan to get rich here...prove my oppressor wrong...and go on to spend my money in a country that does not view me as a second or third class citizen...maybe Brazil...the flag is NOT a symbol of my freedom madam...never will it ever be...this flag oppressed my people for 310 years and counting...so freedom?...no...oppression?...yes...but this is just my opinion...i do not speak for all of my people...i speak for me...i love my people and once we see that unifying as a people is the only way to overthrow the tyranny of oppression...ok im off my soap box now...carry on...
