I don't really get into horse racing and actually forgot what time the Kentucky Derby came on and flipped the tv over when the race had just ended.   Of course, I had to flip it over when the filly, Eight Belles, was down on the track.   She broke her 2 front ankles and they euthanized her on the track.   I, for those who do not know, am very sensitive when it comes to animals.  I almost started to tear up and had to walk out of the room.   Seeing horses run, is one of the most graceful things to witness on Earth.   They are such majestic creatures.   To see her lifeless on the track made me so sad.   This animal had just run the race of her short life and a few steps after crossing the finish line, her life was over.

I was a farm-kid, so I learned about "loss" early in life.   I've seen a lot, we'll just leave it at that, but death of animals always makes me so sad.   I guess it's the pain that the animal had to go through that  bothers me most.   I understand that's why they put her down so quickly (to relieve her from the pain).   I love animals so much!

After all of this, I do not believe I will ever watch another horse race again.   It makes me very nervous.   And I am so glad that my coach couldn't euthanize me after I had 6 different stress fractures in college!   I'm not trying to make light of the situation, it is an honest thought!

Yeah that was sad.
I too took away life lessons & moral lessons from the incident.
Which surprised me because I didn't know the animal, I don't particularly care for horse racing, and I'm not from a rural-farm community.

But I was proud of the horse and angry at the jockey, race establishment. Could he not feel his horse break? maybe? maybe not?

But I also though WOW! You talk about a don't quit attitude. This horse ran in injury & in pain. Competitive & competitor all the way to the end, even if finishing meant death. It didn't stop or pull up.

I hate what happened. But I like it's attitude.
God bless the dead.
Dead animals included.

This was very sad, as much as I love horses it brought tears to my eyes. I read this little piece
{{“We’ve got a lot of great pictures, they say, of her, and she’s got her ears up and was not in any kind of distress galloping out around the turn. I don’t know what happened and when. Just all of the sudden, it just went}}.”

One thing people have to know is that a 2 or 3year old horse's legs is still at the developing stage , and bones can break very easy.

I think PETA is going way to far, A human can fight on tv and almost die from his injuries but to have a horse break his legs and the jockey "did not know when or where" it happen, so they have to put the blame on him and have him suspended.
I will be keeping my ears out on the investigation.

I'm from Missouri, so naturally I cheer for the St. Louis Cardinals. I'm also a Mizzou fan but I went to college at Mississippi State. Yes, I bleed Maroon and White! I love sports and love my job as a sports anchor/reporter. My favorite two athletes of all-time are Michael Jordan and Flo-Jo. I also enjoy eating. I grew up on a beef farm, so I'm very picky about my red meat!
