I am so sick of hearing only black and white.  Fox 13 seems to only think there is black and white people in this area.  How about Native Americans? Hispanics? Asians? Arabs? First they had the story "Memphis in Black and White", now its "Congress in Black and White". I and several other Native Americans have attempted to contact every local news station during November, which is Native American history month. We even went so far as to do the research for them so they may feature a different famous Native American like they do for African Americans during Black history month. We never recieved any response. April is Hispanic history month and I have yet to hear a thing about it on the news. This seems rather racially biased to me. Being as how Hispanics are the fastest growing race in the nation it seems only fair that they recieve as much attention as Blacks and Whites. Also Native Americans were the first people in this nation and we get the least media attention. Everytime we have a Pow-Wow we attempt to contact the media for coverage and all we normally get is a small article in the Commercial Appeal buried somewhere in the middle. So WAKE UP people and start seeing color and stop seeing in only BLACK AND WHITE!

BRAVO FOR YOU GOURD DANCER!!!!!I TOTALLY AGREE. I THOUGHT I MIGHT BE THE ONLY ONE WHO WAS SICK OF THAT.THERE ARE A LOT MORE PEOPLE IN THIS CITY OF ALL RACES. " CONGRESS IN BLACK AND WHITE" WHAT KIND OF CRAP IS THAT? IT'S THE KIND OF CRAP THAT KEEPS MEMPHIAN'S DIVIDED!DROP THE BLACK AND WHITE. I DON'T THINK THE NINTH DISTRICT NEEDS ALL THIS WHO CAN DO BETTER BLACK OR WHITE.IT SHOULD BE SIMPLY WHO CAN DO BETTER.WHEN YOU POST SOMETHING BLACK OR WHITE IT FORCES PEOPLE TO FEEL THEY HAVE TO BELIEVE ONE OVER THE OTHER BECAUSE OF THE COLOR OF THEIR SKIN. BRAVO AGAIN FOR YOUR POST!!

I am very proud of my Mohican heritage and I do agree that it's getting tiring to hear only about black and white. The Native Americans lost more than ANY others have and no one seems to care. They do stories to keep people up in arms.

Black & White is probably because they are the largest population groups in the county, & memphis media market.

That being said, I'm tired of it too. The reports never seem to be solution bearing breakdowns. The discussion on race is always prefaced as confrontation & clash. And not as sonnygl says "America" centric. I'm all for honest discussion & difficult truths, and all that. But these things only irresponsibly stir passions. There never seems to be a third act on this black-white drama.

I don't think Native Americans are dealt with because their history with central government is problematic. Dealing with it destroys the popular myths. "manifest destiny" was really "ethnic cleansing". "reservations" were really "concentration camps". what does anybody know about forced marches? Yeah. it's all icky stuff.

People do better in Arkansas with Pow-Wows, they let you take over the mountain and the park, canoe trips, it's a big deal there. It's a real celebration of life and culture and you get it there, feels like being invisible here. Most people think I'm one of the people, but, I rarely bring it up here.
