So Independence Day is the day that our forefathers Declared Independence on our Country. The day they wanted to be remembered forever as a day of Freedom for America. Well Freedom my FOOT!! We are not even allowed the freedom to celebrate on the day of our own countries Independence! My family and I went to Snowden Grove park (in Southaven BTW) to watch the fireworks show where several other civilians (still in southaven) shot off their own personal fireworks. The show was great, so after we left we went to the fireworks company at Stateline and Getwell (which is still in Southaven) and bought $200 or so in Fireworks. We went to shoot them at my in-laws, which is in Southaven. We had lit a few smoke bombs and some sparklers for the kids and what do you know... Here comes the Southaven Police around the corner. They took all of our fireworks, and issued a ticket to my father in-law!!! I asked the officers why they where doing this and they replied with ,"It's Illegal!" It's illegal to celebrate Independence Day?? I asked him why they sold fireworks in Southaven if it was Illegal to shoot them and he told me that they didn't sale them in Southaven. Even though I had just purchased mine in Southaven. Why are they not legal in Southaven if they are legal in Horn Lake? There are firework stands along the whole border of Southaven. Well to conlcude my blog I would like you to read this letter written to Abigail Adams from her husband on July 2, 1776 as that was the original date the Declaration of Independence was actually signed:
The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the
history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by
succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to
be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion
to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with
shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from
one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever
more.
