Why is it so many Memphis drivers don't have insurance???????????????????????

About 18 months ago my wife was in a head-on crash with a guy who not only ran the red light but also did not have a license or insurance. Then last night as I was going home some idiot decided that he was about miss his exit and without warning veered across two lanes to try and make the turn lane that I was currently in. The damage to my truck was not that bad, a small dent, and no one was hurt, but the thing that gets me is the first thing he said when he got out of his suv (which was missing 3 windows, a fender, and both taillights) was that he did not have insurance. Why not? In California if you are caught driving without insurance they tow your car, here they give you a ticket, and let you drive off. WHY?

Hey Fly, first of all I have to comment on your brothers picture, I love it!!! Not sure which one is him but just seeing our men and women really means a lot, They all have my support:)

WOW! I am sure that head on crash had to be serious, Hope not to bad though. And your lucky that you just got a dent, and you not hurt. Yeah know I always thought that when you go to get your plates renewed you had to show proof that you have insurance, not sure what happen to that rule, but they sure don't ask me where I live for proof and they need to make it the LAW.

Yeah my wifes accident was scary, luckily all that happened to her was a broken hand. As far as insurance I just don't get it, around here Miss., and Tenn. it's like they don't really care and the ones who do have insurance are the ones that have to deal with those that don't.

My brother is the one in the middle of the first row. It was when he was coming home from Afghanstan.

Your exactly right, we pay out the butt for our insurance and also for their cause of an accident, makes no sense at all, for sure!!
I was in ahead-on accident back in "84", and it had me in intensive care for 2 weeks, my boyfriend was killed on the spot with a broken neck, we were hit by a drunk driver and yes you guessed it no insurance.
Your wife got out of her accident very lucky.

Yeah I saw the sign in the background saying Welcome Home, so is he back home for good or does he have to go back?

Hopefully my brother is home for good, he is suppose to get out in July, but with the whole stop-loss thing he may get extended, we won't find out until June for sure.

Thanks Fly, but you know this guy got only 4 years for vechilcular homicide and grrr I can't think of what they called my case, but he was supposed to stay in jail for only 6 years, 2 years for what he did to me, but was let go only serving 8 months, and you talking about a mad daddy, my boyfriends dad found out about it and he went out looking for his azz, he was going to make him pay, but he could never catch up with the guy. It was all a very sad situation.

Your right with all thats going on you never know if they might call your brother back in, and wow he does not have much longer to be out. All in all I give my Thanks to you and him:):) My husband served in the National Guard but was never sent over seas, he came close to Desert Storm but was never sent over.

Hey Fly, let me tell you, I work for an insurance company and there are sooooo many uninsured motorists on the road. People driving brand new cars with no insurance on them. Until the mandatory insurance laws are actually enforced, it will continue to be that way. The people who actually have insurance will continue to pay for the ones who don't. I would say that 1 out of every 3 claims we pay are uninsured motorists claims.

Crzy it is crazy! When I lived in Caly the cops wouldn't think twice, no license, no insurance, outdated tags, and they would tow your car and away you walked, with a hefty ticket. By allowing these idiots to not pay their part we the people who try to do the right thing are the ones stuck paying the bill.
